This is our October Speaker news round-up. It has been a busy month with more live events taking place, which has been great. In this month’s news we are delighted to have added Will Storr, Jamie McAnsh, and Josh Littlejohn to the website; have feedback on Anne Wafula Strike, Kate Russell, Rob Forkan and Penny Mallory, and Dan Keeley has shared with us his recent TEDx talk video

We are delighted to welcome the following speakers to the website 

Will Storr is an award-winning writer and journalist and a popular speaker on the science of storytelling. Author of six critically acclaimed books, including the novel The Hunger and The Howling of Killian Lone, Will’s journalism has appeared in titles including The Guardian, The Sunday Times, The New Yorker, and The New York Times.

His speaking topics include –

SELFIE – Will also delivers a talk around his book In this talk based on his widely critically acclaimed book Selfie (‘Electrifying’, The Financial Times; ‘Approaching genius’, The Sunday Times), Will tells the story of how the West became self-obsessed. From Ancient Greece to Thatcher’s neoliberal revolution, so today’s world of celebrity and social media, he tells how our modern hyper-competitive world is making us more perfectionistic, and explores the effects this is having on our mental wellbeing.

Jamie McAnsh is an inspirational and motivational speaker with a story like no other. Waking up paralysed he has overcome every challenge put in front of him. Jamie is a sportsman, a role model an entrepreneur, a Disabled adventurer, and most of all a survivor -whose motto is “Get Back Up”.

Life dealt Jamie McAnsh a set of cards and he decided he was going to play poker. Looking at his challenges from outside the box Jamie has overcome adversity in an amazing style. In January 2014, Jamie woke up Paralysed from the waist down. He was diagnosed with a functional neurological condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).

Josh Littlejohn is one of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs and inspirational speakers having founded pioneering social enterprises and led a global movement to tackle homelessness and displacement.

Josh began working on the homelessness issue when he founded Social Bite, a social enterprise in Scotland with a mission to eradicate homelessness in the country. Social Bite started as a small chain of sandwich shops that began offering jobs and free food to homeless people. The cafes shot to global fame when Hollywood A-lister George Clooney visited an outlet in Edinburgh in 2015. Another Oscar winner Leonardo Di Caprio then visited the social enterprise in 2016. Social Bite has employed over 100 homeless people and gives out over 140,000 items of free food each year to those in need. Social Bite has also been visited by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and The Duchess of Cambridge.
