Garry Richardson

after dinner

Garry Richardson joined the BBC on the 9th September 1974 and is now one of its longest serving broadcasters. He started as an office junior (he was the tea boy) and worked his way up through local radio before moving to national radio and TV in 1980.

For the past 40 years Garry has had one of the most high profile jobs in broadcasting appearing every week on Radio 4’s prestigious Today Programme.

Garry has been performing on the after-dinner circuit for the past 40 years and has a fund of hilarious anecdotes from his broadcasting career. He has interviewed Nelson Mandela, Muhammad Ali, and President Bill Clinton. He has filmed with Hollywood stars including Ben Stiller and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He even worked alongside Richard Burton one of the world’s greatest actors. Garry has presented Friday Night is Music Night on Radio 2 and even sang on the programme while being accompanied by the 65 piece BBC Concert Orchestra. He has covered 7 Olympic Games for BBC TV.

After 45 years at the BBC Garry Richardson takes you behind the scenes with a fund of hilarious stories from his broadcasting life. He is also able to deliver a motivational speech incorporating video and slides.

It’s at corporate business dinners and as an awards host where Garry has proved to be an outstanding success. The range of clients Garry has spoken to come from just about every profession.

They include HSBC, Barclays, Coutts, Bank or Ireland, KPMG, Deloitte, Porsche, Mercedes, British Airways, American Airlines, Qantas, Tesco, British Health Care, Institute of Engineering and Technology, Civil Engineers Contractors Association, British Health Care, National Farmers Union.

Garry’s vast experience is captured perfectly in this review after a performance in Edinburgh. “Garry is a first class and genuinely funny after dinner speaker. He is sharp and witty in a modern way, without ever giving offence. His wholesome, self-deprecating humour appeals equally to men and women in the party, something not always mastered by his peers. He is a man who clearly takes the trouble to understand his audience and prepare his material accordingly. At the same time he is alert and fleet of foot deftly picking up and responding to the audience’s reaction. He entertained and charmed at the Health Shield AGM, not the easiest thing to do.”

Garry will always liaise with clients ahead of functions making sure nothing is left to chance. His mixture of anecdotes proves time and time again to be a hit with his audiences as these testimonials illustrate.

We have worked with Matthew for many years and will continue to do so. His knowledge of the Speaker Market and ability to interpret our clients requirements is quite exceptional.

He is incredibly thorough in his approach and always goes that extra mile to ensure everything is exactly as required.

I am always happy working with Matthew, he has great credibility, he is very diverse in his ability to make things happen.

Matthew Fisher and I have worked together for many number of years. I have always found Matt to be honest, good natured and willing to work hard always carefully selecting the best appearances to suit my personality and lifestyle.
