Crisis Management

From time to time we get enquiries from clients who are looking for a speaker that has worked for one of the emergency services and to hear their experiences of working under pressure, decision making and how they work as a team.

These are just a few of of the speakers we work with that have worked for one of the emergency services and share their experiences.

Garrett Emmerson

Garrett Emmerson is the former Chief Executive Officer of the London Ambulance Service (LAS) who led the Service through the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as responding multiple major incidents including the two London Bridge terrorist attacks and the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy.

Appointed to modernise the Service after it was put into ‘special measures’ by NHS regulators, following a damming report by Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors rating it ‘inadequate’ overall, Garrett oversaw a transformation that, within two years, saw it exit special measures and be re-rated as ‘Good’ overall by the CQC.

However his greatest leadership challenge would come in early 2020, when London was hit first and hardest in the UK by the COVID-19 pandemic. The nature of its role as city’s primary emergency healthcare provider meant that LAS was at the forefront of the national response to this global emergency.

Sabrina Cohen-Hatton

After leaving home at 15 and school at 16, she overcame extreme personal adversity and a period of homelessness and began her career as a firefighter. At night school, she studied for a 1st Class Honours degree in Psychology, a Masters in International Fire Service Development and a PhD in Behavioural Neuroscience.

She is now recognised as a leading international expert on risk-critical decision making in crises and is an Honorary Research Fellow at Cardiff University. She has presented her work all over the world and used her research to change deeply ingrained national policy. She has won international acclaim for this prize-winning work. As a Chief Fire Officer, she has attained the highest rank possible in the UK. Her operational experience includes leading the fire service response to major incidents such as the London Bridge terror attack, the Finsbury Park terror attack and the aftermath of Grenfell.

Nigel Taberner

Nigel Taberner is a former UK hostage negotiator who provides bespoke communications training, consultancy and keynote speeches.

What would you say to a man holding a gun to their partner’s head? Very few people are faced with having to make those life-or-death decisions, but for 10 years that was the world that Nigel lived in as a hostage negotiator. During that time, he successfully resolved more than 130 high-risk armed sieges, suicide threats and international negotiations.

As a sought-after speaker, Nigel now lifts the lid on his time as a hostage negotiator and reveals transferable skills from that largely hidden world, to help leaders and teams improve performance, well-being and outcomes through adopting the principles of truly effective listening, communication and influence. Nigel spent 30 years with the Greater Manchester Police

Maxine Hulme

Maxine Hulme QPM is a former Deputy Assistant Commissioner in the Metropolitan Police and a keynote speaker on transformation, leadership and diversity. Maxine Hulme joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 1986 and served at a variety of Boroughs within South London in both uniform and detective roles. She developed an interest in covert policing and pro-active crime during this time.

During 1999 Maxine joined Specialist Operations and subsequently became part of the Specialist Crime Directorate as an SIO. During this period she worked within the kidnap unit, Arts and antiques and cheque and credit card squads.

Rob Hosking

Dubbed “The Mighty Motivator” by Chris Evans, Rob is an international TEDx keynote speaker, author, and former frontline Police Officer, renowned for helping organisations adapt, perform, and lead effectively under pressure.
