Andy Lopata is a specialist speaker on networking and social media strategy and Professional relationships Strategist.

Andy is a firm believer that networking is an essential tool in business, that helps with not only sales leads but career growth and development.

Andy believes networking held in the same high regard as other business methods but if utilised correctly can help companies realise their goals. By knowing why you are networking and what you want to achieve, it is possible to plan accordingly and get great, measurable results.

Andy’s comes from a networking background as for eight years he was Managing Director of one of the UK’s leading referral-focused networking groups with over 2,000 member companies.

He has gone onto advise an array of companies from new starters to leading worldwide names such as NatWest Bank, Merrill Lynch, and Mastercard. Each time he has helped businesses realise that networking helps to develop future leaders, and recruit and retain top staff as well.

A regular blogger for The Huffington Post, Andy has been quoted in The Sunday Times, The Financial Times and The Guardian.

He has also co-authored two books on networking, and a third published by Financial Times Prentice Hall in August 2011. Once a month he co-presents The Global Networking Show with BNI Founder Ivan Misner’

Andy has been awarded the PSAE – the Professional Speaking Association Award of Excellence, which is held by only 21 other speakers at the time it was presented.

He is a Fellow and a former Vice-President of the Professional Speaking Association (PSA) and a Fellow of the Learning and Performance Institute (LPI) and also a Master of the Institute of Sales Management and Member of the Global Speakers Federation (GSF).

Vulnerable Leadership

Leadership people look to their leaders for strength and direction, particularly in times of uncertainty. But does that mean that leaders need to know all of the answers, all of the time? At a time when people are being encouraged to share their vulnerability, how can leaders do so while still commanding respect? If, indeed, it is desirable for them to do so.

Andy Lopata explores the apparent contradictions between vulnerability and strong leadership. Andy proposes that not only is vulnerability an asset for leaders but it is a sign of strength and works to the benefit of the leader as an individual and the people they lead. In the talk, Andy discusses how we expect our leaders to be strong, and be seen to be strong; to be resilient and to be seen to be resilient; to take the lead and be seen to take the lead. Culturally we are conditioned to see these qualities as the polar opposite of vulnerability but Andy argues that, in fact, each of these qualities is aided by leaders being more vulnerable and authentic. This can be delivered as a keynote talk, a facilitated discussion or a combination of the two.
