Speaker Questions
A vast majority of our news pieces are client focused and based around topics speakers can offer and updates on new books, showreels etc and we don’t often put posts out for the benefit of speakers.
With that in mind, we wanted to take the opportunity to just put a news piece out covering some of the questions we get asked by speakers and provide a little bit of background on what we do. We are always flattered when a speaker does reach out to us so i hope this helps out in some way.
I am looking for representation can you help?
Firstly It depends on what kind of representation you are looking for.
We are primarily a speaker bureau. We are independent of talent and therefore our clients are those that book speakers for their events. Our role is to essentially to try and help find them the best speaker for their event.
Whilst we do have a handful of exclusive speakers we manage, we do not tend to offer exclusive management of speakers unless the circumstance fits well. Other than these exclusive speakers, we do not seek out work and promote individual speakers, so if you are looking for an agency that is going to actively promote you personally then we are not for you.
Can we be added to your website?
We are always open to considering new speakers for the website but we do limit the number of speakers on the site to make it more manageable for us and to hopefully keep profiles as updated as possible. It obviously depends on your experiences and what you speak on. (You don’t have to be famous to listed on our site. I know that sound like a silly thing to say – but it is a question we have been asked)
That all said, this year we have received a lot more new speaker requests than we have before so being a bit more selective than usual and tending to review new speakers only every few months now
Is there any charge to be listed on the website?
No, there is no charge to be listed and no contract needed to be signed to be on the website. The only contract will be as or when you do an event for us.
Do we need to be listed on your website to get booked?
Not at all. The website is just a list of some of the speakers we work with and can help supply other speakers not listed on the site. Speakers are always welcome to send us information and even if we don’t list you on the site we do genuinely keep the detail on file
What information do you need speakers to send us?
We always ask for a biography, a photo, ideally a showreel, testimonials and a list of speaking topics (ideally short paragraphs describing the keynotes you deliver) and if possible some takeways. This is a good start point for us to review
What not to send us?
I know this sounds very specific but-
- We ask please please please do not send us anything in PDF format and do not send us any ONE PAGERS. We fully appreciate that speakers get a lot of direct enquiries and one pagers are great for those enquiries but we don’t use them. Everything is put into our formatting and headed material so word documents/text documents are always preferred
- We prefer biographies that are written in third person format and not first person format.
- Ideally we prefer no testimonials from other speakers in your testimonial list. It is great that other speakers support what you do but prefer testimonials from clients.
- Any showreels must be bureau friendly with no contact details on. We don’t expect you to send us the physical showreel (you can if you like) and a link is fine but with no contact details on please.
- Any photos sent please ensure you have right to use them or if we need to credit a photography that is fine
Do you guarantee any bookings being listed on the website?
No we don’t pretend to guarantee you any work just being listed on the site but with a limited number of speakers listed on the site, it is our hope you will be included in suggestion lists to clients.
We don’t like to list speakers for the sake of it so anyone listed we will to genuinely feel we can get work for you.
Any speaker can request their profile to be removed from the website at any point and if we feel we are just not suggesting the speaker for anything we may also chose to take them of the site.
How often can we send you updates?
We like to try and keep your profile as updated as possible so you are always welcome to send any updates when you have news or want to change anything. But ideally 2 or 3 times a year not every month. We want speakers to be happy with their webpage.
I have just started my speaker journey can you help?
If timing permits we are always happy to try and have a chat over the phone and offer some initial advice but we don’t provide training as such for speakers.
If you are looking to develop your speaking journey I know of a number of speakers that have worked with either the Professional Speakers Association, Maria Franzoni or Future Voices in that regard.
I hope this has proved useful but for any more details or questions please contact us on enquiries@scampspeakers.co.uk
