Mental Health Awareness Week Community

Mental Health Awareness week is taking place in the UK between the 12th and 18th May 2025 and the theme for 2025 is “Community”.

The week is designed to raise awareness of the importance of community for our mental health and wellbeing and a reminder that we are not alone and how community can bring a sense of belonging, safety, support in difficult times.

If you planning an event around this week and looking for a speaker these are a few speakers we would recommend.

EMMA CAMPBELL

Emma Campbell is an author and podcast host known on Instagram as Limitless Em and a speaker on resilience, overcoming adversity and the menopause.

Emma has over 66,000 followers on Instagram where she shares aspects of the incredible journey she’s been on as a long term cancer survivor, single mum of teenage triplets and so much more. She is known for her honesty, vulnerability and open hearted approach to life and passionately believes that we all have limitless potential despite the challenges we may face. She offers hope to thousands of women in the breast cancer community who are all at different points in their cancer experiences and has learnt to celebrate a body that has been through so much whilst excepting that she will remain on cancer treatment for life.

MATT ELLISON

Matt Ellison is a highly sought-after, entertaining and thought-provoking transgender speaker. His life experience as a trans man has fascinated and inspired audiences of all kinds in both private and public sectors in the U.K. and internationally. His insights on change, as someone who has made such a huge and fundamental change himself, apply to everyone in all areas of professional and personal life.

As Co-Chair of support group FTM London, he gained deep insight into the extensive mental health challenges faced by this community, evident through the prevalence of self-harm scars, depression, anxiety and more. Through his work, he has successfully empowered individuals to overcome these struggles.

ANDREW PAIN

Andrew is a motivational and CPD accredited mental health speaker, a podcaster and award-winning campaigner for men and boys, leading in his work on men’s mental health, also delivering talks on burnout, community building and psychological safety.

He’s a lived-experience speaker on domestic abuse and his popular TEDx talk is one of the only TED/TEDx talks exploring the topic as a male victim.

Following the breakdown of his marriage and loss of his business in 2009, he rebuilt his life and is now thriving as a dynamic, down-to-earth and entertaining speaker, on a mission to prevent burnout, to create decisive and resilient communities of people and promote gender unity.

SHAHIN SADAFI

Shahin Sadafi moved with his family to West London in 1994 and in 1997 moved to Grenfell Tower in the borough of Kensington and chelsea. By 2017 Shahin has established himself as a successful businessman, consultant and trainer working with some of the UK’s leading PLCS and organisations. it was here he discovered he had a natural gift for speaking and leading others.

He was working away from home on the 14th June 2017 when he received a call in the middle of the night to say that Grenfell Tower was on fire and he raced home as soon as possible to find his family and help others. The end was devastating. 71 people died and 70 people were injured and most of the building was destroyed.

Shahin and everyones lives were changed forever. But in this moment of extreme tragedy a community came together and working with residents and the wider community Shahin established Grenfell United – an association with the ultimate mission to unite the bereaved families and survivors  with a strong and dignified voice, as well as assisting with their immediate and long term needs which included campaigning for justice, access to housing and charitable funds, trauma support and taking part in major fundraising projects.

STEPHEN WHITTON

Stephen Whitton is a Speaker, Social Entrepreneur, Influencer, Mental Health Warrior, and survivor who has been speaking up for mental health in masculine environments.

Stephen is Founder of [M]enable – the global movement for mental health support in the Automotive Sector. After a successful career spanning 35 years in the industry, with numerous roles from Salesman to Executive Director, he is a renowned authority on employee well-being to achieve results.

[M]enable was created on the back of Stephen’s own struggles, with a clear purpose and mission – to change cultures in male dominated and performance driven businesses, enabling the Mental Health stigma to be removed. Wanting leaders to embrace the ethos that when people feel good about themselves, they perform better, Stephen’s mantra is “positive employee outcomes = positive customer outcomes = positive business outcomes”.
