Just About Speaking

Last week my 6-year-old daughter asked me what I did in my job. I tried to explain it to her and after listening for a while she responded by saying “So basically you speak to people about speaking to other people. So it is really just about speaking?”

For some reason this really got me thinking because there is some simplistic truth to this.

As a bureau, our job is to find the right speaker for each client. To make sure they fit the brief and budget and importantly have the impact on the team they are looking for.

In addition, if we do our job properly, we try to take away any hassle for both the client and the speaker. We will arrange the briefing call and help with any travel arrangements and if possible, ensure any presentations are sent in advance and always send a detailed call sheet to the speaker a few days before.

For clients, it is not always just about the speaker, and have many other things to juggle on the day and for the speaker, they may have a number of events in a given week so it is important we make it as easy and organised for them so they can focus on the most important thing…….. just about speaking.

So I think my daughter is right – it is just about speaking – we just help make the process as smooth as possible.
