Another Peak by Alex Staniforth
Our November book of the month is ‘Another Peak: Everest is Not the Only Summit” by adventurer, mental health advocate, and inspirational speaker Alex Staniforth.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Reaching Everest was always the dream, but after an avalanche stopped Alex Staniforth the first time and an earthquake the second, he had to take a step back. But even as he climbed down, he couldn’t stop wondering ‘What’s next?’
A restlessness in his bones, and a need to help make things better after the lives claimed in his two climbs, led Alex to his hardest mission yet: ClimbTheUK; to cycle to the highest points of the United Kingdom.
But a history of anxiety, depression, and eating disorders rears its multiple heads once more, making this the hardest thing Alex has ever had to do. Finding himself alone too often, with only his thoughts for company, it becomes less of a fight of man and nature and more of man and mind.
Another Peak is a follow-up to Alex’s first book “Icefall” which won bronze in the Readers Favourite International Book Contest in 2016
ABOUT ALEX
Alex Staniforth is a record-breaking adventurer, ultra-endurance athlete, published author, speaker, brand ambassador, and charity founder from Cheshire who has never taken the conventional path to the top.
At the age of 26 he has already attempted Mount Everest twice – but Alex is not your typical Everest speaker. After climbing Mont Blanc at 17 and single-handedly raising over £35,000 in corporate sponsorship whilst still at school, his first attempt to climb to the summit of Mount Everest in 2014 was abandoned following a tragic avalanche that took sixteen lives. Aged just 19, he returned a year later and survived an avalanche in the Khumbu Icefall, triggered by the Nepal earthquake, which trapped his team on the mountain for two days.
However, his biggest challenges have been much closer to home. Alex Staniforth is no stranger to adversity, after overcoming epilepsy, bullying, anxiety, mental ill health, and a stammer since childhood. Discovering the outdoors empowered him to achieve through adversity and take advantage of his stammer by speaking to audiences across the UK and Europe.
Confronting his stammer head-on, Alex Staniforth shares his insights with business teams, organisations, and conferences across the UK, Europe, South America, and Asia to challenge self-limiting beliefs and inspire action. Through his ‘Resilience Rucksack’ tool, Alex helps teams prepare for the challenges ahead and develop a proactive approach to well-being. Alex has already helped organisations including Bank of America Merrill-Lynch, Rolls-Royce, Smurfit Kappa, the NHS, British Cycling, Shoosmiths, Bristol Myers- Squibb, and many more to invest in their resilience and well-being. With the rising costs of mental ill health and burnout – can you afford not to?
